MARQUETTE UNIVERSITY SELECTED GOTECH’S GUILLAUME AS INAUGURAL ALUMNUS SPEAKER

Rhaoul A. Guillaume, Sr., P.E., F.ASCE, a 1971 Marquette University (College of Engineering) graduate and President of GOTECH, Inc., a consulting engineering firm headquartered in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, served as the Inaugural Returning Alumnus Speaker at Marquette Univerity on October 28, 2009. Each year, beginning in 2009, Marquette University will invite a successful, accomplished alumnus to speak in the classroom and a themed public presentation in the auditorium. Marquette’s motto is “Being the Difference” and the University selects an alum who explifies this motto with the purpose of encouraging others to do likewise and illustrating to students how to best live the motto.

The highlight of the event was his evening speech entitled, “Being a Difference” given in the Alumni Memorial Union to approximately 200 guests including his fellow Sigma Phi Delta brothers, engineers from Milwaukee and interested public.

Guillaume also spoke to 100 construction management, engineering, business and communication students in Dr. Mark Federle’s classes. Federle is the McShane Chair in Construction Engineering and Management. Guillaume shared lunch with several Mardi Gras students, a volunteer group of Marquette students who travel to the New Orleans Ninth Ward each school break to assist with rebuild efforts.

Guillaume was accompanied by his two sons, Rhaoul, Jr. and Randy who work at GOTECH, Bruce Dyson, Engineering Coordinator and Jeff Floyd, Chief Engineer. GOTECH is a professional engineering and consulting firm established in 1981.

December 9, 2008
The Membership Applications Review Committee (MARC) of the American Society of Civil Engineers elected Rhaoul A. Guillaume, Sr. to Fellow.

As explained on the ASCE website, ASCE Fellows occupy the Society's second-highest membership grade, exceeded only by Honorary Members. Fellow status must be attained by professional accomplishments via application and election by the Membership Application Review Committee (MARC). It is a prestigious honor held by fewer than 6% of ASCE members.

Fellows are practitioners, educators, mentors and most of all leaders. They have distinguished careers that have contributed significantly to the Civil Engineering profession. The accomplishments of Fellows have left their marks on their communities, society, and future engineering professionals.
